Paul Cezanne: The Basel Sketchbooks – Hardcover

The drawings reproduced in this book have been selected from the exceptionally comprehensive collection at the Kunstmuseum in Basel, Switzerland, which spans most of Cézanne’s career, from the 1860s to about 1900. All of the artist’s major themes are represented in these small drawings: landscapes, still life, portrait, and figure comparison, including bathers and copies from Renaissance and neoclassical sculpture. 152 pp.; 127 illus.

Published in 1988 and edited by Lawrence Gowing, this rare book from MoMA Publications is available in extremely limited quantities. Each book from this special selection has been stored for decades in MoMA’s warehouse.
