The design for this bold rug was conceived by architect and textile and furniture designer Alexander Girard, who is known for his work with Charles and Ray Eames and other mid-century figures. Designed in 1960, the rug’s fabric—a 100% cotton flatweave—is manufactured by Maharam, a company founded in Chicago in 1902 by Russian immigrant Louis Maharam.
