A street lamp was the springboard for the Arco Floor Lamp: that is, a ceiling lamp that does not require holes in the ceiling. The Arco Floor Lamp provides lighting by projecting its light source eight feet away from the base, leaving enough room underneath to serve dinner and sit at the table. Its adjustable stainless-steel shade and arm allow for both direct and indirect lighting. The hole in the marble base of the Arco Floor Lamp, designed to allow transport with a broom handle, has become one of the lamp’s signature design elements. Featured in the Museum’s collection, this lamp boasts a bold arc that still makes a sweeping statement more than 50 years after its creation.
