Known for prominent commissions like the Elysée Palace interiors for Francois Mitterrand and accessible work like his housewares for Target, French designer Philippe Starck is both design world luminary and household name. Following “democratic design,” he believes that thoughtfully conceived objects should be available to all. His wide-ranging design work includes furniture, mail-order houses, motorcycles, mega-yachts, and even artistic direction for space travel. Starck’s work was featured in the MoMA PS1 solo exhibition Philippe Starck: Furniture and Objects (1999).
